2020 EcoDiesel Facts:
- A double-vacuum pump system employs both an electric pump and a novel mechanical low-friction pump with redesigned blades to improve system performance.
- A latest-generation, water-cooled variable-geometry turbine turbocharger affords 1500 proficiency and responsiveness in transient states.
- Compression ratio moves from the former 16.5:1 to an exceptional 16.0:1.
- The exhaust gas recirculation system framework now has a dual-loop (low/high-pressure) system. This pulls gases behind the diesel particulate filter via the extra low-pressure circulation system, which in turn reduces drive losses to the turbocharger, resulting in greater fuel conservation.
- High-pressure direct-injection fuel injector nozzles were reconstructed to accommodate the bolstered combustion chamber. (29,000 psi/2,000 bar)
- Thought-out cylinder head intake ports promote more efficient air flow, delivering both fuel savings and performance.
- Aluminum alloy pistons were completely redesigned to incorporate thinner rings and a low-friction coating on the pin/side-skirts, resulting in reduced losses.
This third generation's the charm for the turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6, now with a broadened scope in both torque & horsepower, a 16.0:1 compression ratio, and a best-in-class 480 lb-ft of torque at 1,600-RPM standing. In the 2020 Ram 1500 pickup truck, the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 enlarges its lead in terms of torque by 14-percent from just 2018! The engine authorizes horsepower values of 8-percent higher, up to 260-hp at 3,600 RPM (since the second-generation engine).
The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 features a 60-degree angle between the cylinder banks and dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) with four valves per cylinder. The EcoDiesel V-6 features a forged-steel crankshaft and delivers power with bolstered connecting rods. Delving further, note the heat-treated aluminum cylinder heads that operate different bearing caps, in a successful bid to reduce friction, noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). Inside this modern marvel, roller-finger followers serve the chain-driven overhead camshafts, and aluminum alloy pistons are cooled at the bottom by oiljet showers! The block is presently lighter (than traditional cast iron) because it is formulated with compacted graphite iron, a blend that enhances strength, buffers vibrations, and saves fuel. Furthering that goal is a compacted graphite iron bedplate on the block, contributing to rigidity.
